CFO tech stack

In turbulent times, not many roles are as important as the chief financial officer (CFO). From growth — or survival — strategies to cashflow planning, CFOs are faced with a large number of complex obstacles, though they’re no longer left alone to box with unstructured spreadsheets and outdated tools.

Startups are lending a helping hand to automate, streamline and optimise financial operations across the board, and they’re aiming to grow fast while they’re most needed. Some use higher-quality data to help both SMEs and larger organisations make sense of their financial planning, advising on how to cut costs on one hand and where to (re)allocate resources on the other. Others are taking the integration route, working to centralise the tech stack needed to perform core tasks. After all, any good CFO knows when to cut SaaS costs to a strict minimum.

Although funding is still hard to come by for CFO startups too, some bright success stories are paving the way for younger ventures to follow — including Paris-based Pigment, which secured an $88m Series C from the likes of Iconiq Growth and Felix Capital in April 2024, or Pennylane, one of the most recent additions to Europe’s unicorn stable.
