Digital Health

Major concerns linger over whether we will have enough health professionals to meet the healthcare needs of growing and ageing populations, given many systems are already at breaking point. Digital health can partially address the workforce challenge, but momentum has slowed. Record investment in 2021 and 2022 totalled $10.5bn, before activity dipped significantly in 2023 with startups only attracting $1.4bn in funding.

Unclear and country-specific reimbursement policies around the continent make scaling across Europe difficult, meaning for now, startups have only been able to crack local markets. Expect further downrounds and consolidation this year, as digital health startups that raised money during the peak of post-Covid valuations run out of cash.
