Welcome to the the Sifted 30: Central Europe Leaderboard, which ranks the fastest-growing startups across Switzerland, Austria, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Hungary and Liechtenstein by revenue growth. 

Combined, the 30 startups have raised €850m in funding and generated revenues of €792m over the past three financial years, employing more than 2,500 people.

To be eligible, startups had to meet the following criteria: headquartered in Central Europe as per Sifted’s definition; founded in or after 2014; maximum headcount of 999; private and independent; majority of revenue must be generated by proprietary technology; at least three years of revenue data; and revenue (annualised if necessary) of at least €100k in the base year (2020, 2021 or 2022) and at least €1m in the most recent financial year (2022, 2023 or 2024). Companies were required to submit signed documentation to support disclosed financial information not publicly available.

The fastest-growing startups in Central Europe in 2024

Yokoy is a Zurich-based startup founded by Philippe Sahli, Devis Lussi, Melanie Gabriel, Thomas Inhelder and Lars Mangelsdorf in 2019. Sahli is the CEO of the company. It enables companies to automate their expense and credit card processes using AI and counts Sequoia Capital, Leftlane, Balderton, Swisscom, SIX/Tenity, Speedinvest and Visionaries among its investors. It has raised €100m.

This Bern-based startup develops so-called mineralisation tech, which binds CO₂ in demolished concrete. The two founders — Valentin  Gutknecht and Johannes  Tiefenthaler — are also joint CEOs. It managed to remove 1000 tonnes so far with a target of 1m tons by 2030. The company employs 50 people and has raised €1m.

Resistant AI is a Prague-based startup founded by Jan Stiborek, Jan Jusko, Tomáš Laube, Martin Rehak, Karel Bartoš, Josef Stach, Martin Grill, Martin Vejman and Lukáš Machlica. It enhances automated financial risk & compliance systems across use cases such as KYC, AML, BNPL and counts GV (formerly Google Ventures), Index Ventures, Credo Ventures, Seedcamp and Notion Capital among its investors. It has raised €28.2m.

Woltair is a Prague-based startup founded by Daniel Helcl and Karel Náprstek in 2018. Vit Javurek, an ex-McKinsey consultant is the company’s CEO. Woltair’s platform connects various clean energy stakeholders such as technicians, salesmen, experts and producers and also lists heat pumps and EV charging stations on its platform. It counts ArcTern Ventures, Westly Group, Fifthwall, Inven Capital, Kaya VC and Movens Capital among its investors. It has raised €42m and recorded €46.1m in revenues in FY23, according to information submitted to Sifted.

Xerof is a Swiss startup founded by Nick Ntigrintakis and Marc Taverner in 2021. Taverner assumes the CEO role. It focuses on facilitating cryptocurrency transactions for various industries while also offering traditional cryptocurrency exchange services. It is backed by several angel investors and has raised €4.5m.

Plenti is a Warsaw-based startup founded by Wojtek Rokosz (who is also the CEO), Karol Klimas and Wojciech Wójtowicz in 2018.  Plenti has built a rental and subscription marketplace for electronic devices. It counts AIP Seed, Montis Capital, 4growth and VCNCBR Investment Fund among its investors. It has raised €7m and recorded €2.4m in revenues in FY23, according to information submitted to Sifted.

4Trans is a Prague-based startup founded in 2018 by Jaroslav Ton who is also the CEO. It provides a financing solution to underserved businesses in logistics. It is backed by Tera Ventures, Atmos Ventures, Lighthouse Venture and Advance Global Capital and has raised €3.8m.

Daytrip is a Czech startup founded by Valeriia Pshenychna, and Markéta Bláhová in 2015, with Tomáš Turek assuming the CEO role. Daytrip has built a platform connecting independent travellers with local drivers for travel between cities. It counts Taiwania Capital, Euroventures, J&T Ventures and N1 among its investors. It has raised €15.2m and recorded €9.1m in revenues in FY23, according to information submitted to Sifted.

Hydrogrid is a Vienna-based startup founded by Janice Goodenough in 2016, who is also the CEO of the company. It offers automated software solutions for the optimal control of hydropower plants and counts INVEN Capital, Karma VC, SET Ventures and CNB Capital among its investors. It has raised €14m.

Relai is a Zurich-based startup founded by Julian Liniger (who is also the CEO), Adem Bilican and Lars Diener-Kimmich in 2019. It offers a bitcoin saving and investing platform and counts Redalpine, Fulgur Ventures, Cabrit Capital, Ego Death Capital, Lightning Ventures, Polytech Ventures and Crowdcube among its investors. It has raised €9m.

Choice is a Prague-based startup founded by Alex Ilyash (who is also the CEO),  Volodymyr Olyanitsky, Robert Novosad and Tomasz Wozniak in 2020. It offers a SaaS solution for restaurants including QR payments, table ordering, takeaway & delivery and guest CRM. It counts JnT Ventures, Presto Ventures, Reflex Capital, Purple Ventures among its investors and has raised €3.8m

Inventor of “the world’s first wrist-worn 24/7 blood pressure monitoring device”, Aktiia this year inked a $30m deal led by VC Redalpine with the likes of Khosla Ventures and Molten also chipping in. The company, founded by Mattia Bertschi and Josep Sola, says the tech is used by over 60k customers, while total funding from VCs stands at €55m. For anyone super-curious about the tech, Sala edited "The Handbook of Cuffless Blood Pressure Monitoring”, which was released in 2019 and provides an overview of the field of cuffless blood pressure monitoring.

wflow is a Prague-based startup founded by David Groh, David Danek, and Robert Soudný in 2018. Soudný assumes the CEO role of the company. It offers an ERP platform to automate document workflows and counts Seed Starter and Scio Technologies among its investors. It has raised €1.3m so far.

Oddin.gg is a Prague-based startup founded by Marek Suchar and Vlastimil Venclik, in 2018, with Vlastimil assuming the CEO role of the company. It offers a B2B platform for stakeholders in the Esports betting ecosystem and counts Velo Partners and Genting Ventures among its investors. It has raised €5m so far.

Jentis is a Vienna-based startup founded by Klaus Mueller and Thomas Tauchner, in 2020. Tauchner assumes the CEO role of the company. It offers a server-side tracking  tool that captures first-party data for better data quality and website loading times. It counts Bright pixel, 3TS and PragmaTech among its investors and has raised €14.7m.

This Graz-based marketplace aims to pull the scrap metal industry into the future with its snazzy marketplace for buying & selling commodities. Launched in 2016 — by longtime scrap metal expert Alexander Schlick alongside Jan Pannenbäcker — the 39-person operation has raised €19m from FirstMark Capital, Statkraft Ventures, Silence VC and FJ Labs.

PayPo is a Warsaw-based startup founded by Radoslaw N. (who is also the CEO) and Tomasz Hadzik in 2016. It offers BNPL solutions for online stores and has raised €4m.

Waste24 is a Polish startup founded by Lukasz Kaminski — who also assumes the CEO position — and Mateusz Gawin in 2021. Waste24 has built a blockchain platform to offer municipal waste management solutions. It has raised €465k from EEC Ventures and recorded €1.3m in revenues in FY23, according to information submitted to Sifted.

Founded in 2016 by Christoph Sandraschitz, Ferdinand Dietrich and Johannes Braith, this startup offers fully digitised self-storage options in cities across Europe. The 100-strong company snapped up one of Austria’s biggest deals in 2023: a €67m Series B from existing investors, which included the Senger-Weiss Family Offices, Wille Finance, Kineo Capital and Urban PioneersThe company’s total funding raised stands at  €72m.

Whalebone is a Czech startup founded by Richard Malovic — who is also the company’s CEO — and Robert Šefr in 2016. Whalebone is a cybersecurity startup building products aimed at telecom companies, internet service providers and enterprises. It has raised €3.4m from Day One Capital, Jan Prerovsky and Fazole Ventures and recorded €4.3m in revenues in FY23, according to information submitted to Sifted.

Vocalls is a Czech startup founded in 2017 by Martin Čermák and Artem Markevich, who is also the company’s CEO. Vocalls has built a contact centre AI conversation platform to improve customer service processes. It has raised €1.3m from V-Sharp Venture Studio and recorded €3.1m in revenues in FY23, according to information submitted to Sifted.

Varistar is a Czech startup founded by Jan Semrád — who also operates as the company’s CEO — and Martina Semradova in 2017. Varistar is a precision farming startup aiming to reduce the amount of chemical inputs used in agriculture processes. It recorded €1.3m in revenues in FY23, according to information submitted to Sifted.

The customer identification and evaluation of choice for fintech superstars Revolut and Wise, Seon has raised €100m to date. Cofounders and university friends Tamas Kadar and Bence Jendruszak began developing what would become Seon — which today has a headcount of 230 — while working on a crypto exchange venture in 2015 that was targeted by a slew of fake accounts.

This Viennese startup — which stakes its claim to being the leading marketplace for refurbished electronics in the German-speaking region — has pulled in €121m from VCs, including a $57m Series C in 2023. Operating in Italy, Sweden, Denmark, Ireland, the Netherlands, Germany and Austria, Refurbed (headcount 206) last year said it had hit a milestone of over €1bn in sales.

Properti is a Zurich-based startup founded by Levent Künzi — who is also the CEO — and Adrian Künzi, in 2019. It has built a platform for selling and renting real estate and is connecting buyers, renters and property consultants. It counts Bright pixel, 3TS and PragmaTech among its investors and has raised €14.7m.

xFarm Technologies is a Swiss startup founded by Matteo Vanotti and Martino Poretti in 2017. Vanotti assumes the CEO role of the company. It offers a farm management tool for the agrifood sector providing tools for various stakeholders in the agritech ecosystem. It counts United Ventures, Swisscom Ventures, Emerald Technology Ventures, NEVA Sgr, Nova Capital, TiVenture and Grey Silo Ventures among its investors and has raised €21m.

Zug-based vestr offers automated investment management tools for asset managers. The company — cofounded by Rico Blaser, Simon Hasenfratz, Tim Meyer — has raised €15m since its launch in 2017 from investors including EquityPitcher Ventures, Zürcher Kantonalbank and SIX Fintech Ventures. Fun fact about cofounder Hasenfratz: he was once a medalist in the Math Olympiad.

Founded in 2019 by Aleksander Majchrzak and Aleksander Przetakiewicz, Wealthon is a lending firm that offers instalment loans, bridging loans and other financing services to individuals and businesses. The company, which has a headcount of 70, notched revenues of €2.3m in the financial year to December 2023. It has also raised €29m from investors including the 4growth VC fund and NCBR Investment Fund.

Described as a “digital-first” furniture company, Warsaw-based Tylko creates made-to-order shelves and wardrobes. Like Made, the idea behind Tylko is direct-to-consumer, “design-on-demand” furniture. The 190-person company — cofounded by Hanna Kokczyńska, Jacek Majewski, Mikołaj Molenda and Benjamin Kuna in 2015 — has raised €46.2m from investors including Israel-based Pitango Ventures and Finland’s Evli Growth Partners.

Occupying a rooftop office in the old-world Lucerna shopping complex in Prague, Apify enables companies to scrape data from websites and use it to build AI models. Launched in 2016 by Jan Čurn (the company’s CEO) and Jakub Balada, the 83-person company achieved revenues of €7m in the financial year to December 2023. It has also raised €3.3m from investors including J&T Ventures and Reflex Capital. Clients include Siemens, Intercom, Microsoft, T-Mobile, and Accenture.
