Data centre builder Nscale has raised a $2bn Series C round led by Norwegian industrial group Aker and 8090 Industries. The round gives Nscale a $14.6bn valuation.

Other investors in the round include Astra Capital, Citadel, Dell, Jane Street, Lenovo, Linden Advisors, Nokia, Nvidia and Point72.

Aker, which led the round, will see its stake in Nscale increase from 9.3% to 23.9% when the transaction is fully completed, it said in a statement.

The round includes a $433m pre-Series C simple agreement for future equity (SAFE), which the company had announced in October last year.

London-headquartered Nscale, which is currently working on data centre projects in five countries, has also appointed three new board members.

They are former Meta COO Sheryl Sandberg, former UK deputy Prime Minister and Meta global affairs president Nick Clegg and Susan Decker, former president of Yahoo.

Nscale previously raised a $1.1bn Series B in November last year, which gave it a $3.1bn valuation. It also raised a $1.4bn debt facility in February this year, to purchase GPUs for its data centres.

The company has drawn up deals with Microsoft and OpenAI, to supply the tech giants with compute from its data centres.

Nscale has said it will invest £2.5bn into UK data centre infrastructure over the next three years. It also has operations in Portugal, the US, Iceland and Norway.
