How to tell Sifted something confidential

Some of our biggest stories have come from confidential and anonymous tip-offs from readers. If you have something to share with us, here’s how to do so

Sifted's mission has always been to be a critical friend to Europe’s startup ecosystem — and for the "critical" part of our job, we often rely on tips from our readers.

As a result of confidential and anonymous messages our journalists have received, we’ve uncovered an investor who didn’t have the money he claimed he did, reported on hostile work cultures at much-hyped companies and exposed a business which owed thousands of customers refunds it was failing to pay.

If you have something to tell us, there are several ways to get in touch with our journalists. For press releases and non-sensitive news, you can contact the team at

For sensitive tips and for sources who want to protect their anonymity, we use the following tools. No way of tipping us off is 100% secure, so please read the fine print on each to ensure you can keep yourself as safe as possible.

Encrypted email

Sifted can receive tips on our Proton Mail, which is an encrypted email service. Our address is:
