AI startup Wayve in talks for $2bn fundraise, say reports

Fresh funding from SoftBank and Microsoft could value the company at $8bn

Autonomous vehicles scaleup Wayve is in talks with SoftBank and Microsoft to raise $2bn, the Financial Times reported on Monday.

The deal would see Wayve hit a valuation of roughly $8bn, the FT said, citing people with knowledge of ongoing discussions. They cautioned that talks were in early stages and no valuation had been set.

One of the UK's leading AI startups, should discussions bear fruit the fresh capital would take Wayve’s total funding to $3.3bn. SoftBank and Microsoft both previously backed the company in a $1.1bn Series C in May 2024.

They could now funnel another $1bn-2bn into the company, people familiar with the discussions told the FT.

The news comes weeks on from Wayve announcing Nvidia planned to invest $500m into its next round, as part of a slew of funding announcements from the US chip giant.

The company has over 400 employees across the US, UK, Canada, Germany and Japan, with plans to double its headcount by the end of the year across all business functions.

Wayve has been approached for comment.
