Senior event marketing manager

We are looking for an experienced event marketing manager to join our growing team and help us super-charge our ambitious events program. This is a multi-faceted role in a fast paced environment. We’re looking for somebody who can think strategically to deliver on our top level requirements whilst not being afraid to get stuck in and get their hands dirty. 

Who we are

Sifted is a new media platform reporting on the world of technology and startups in Europe, backed by the Financial Times. Three years after launching, our high-quality journalism has become a must-read for many founders, investors and people working in startups across the continent.

Our team of reporters, based across Europe, aren’t chasing after the latest funding announcements or product releases; plenty of other sites have got that covered. We are telling the stories that should be told — big startup trends, compelling company profiles and the everyday lessons that come from growing a business and messing up along the way.

But Sifted is more than just a website. We create podcasts, produce reports and host events across Europe for a startup, scaleup and investor audience.  We’re also building exciting new data products and we recently raised £4m to do more of what we do, even better.

Your place in the team

The marketing team is responsible for our top of the funnel organic and paid traffic strategy, customer acquisition and retention, commercial product marketing, overall brand vision and of course our growing event marketing requirements. It will be your job to take over the event marketing function and really own it. You will lead on the marketing strategy and execution of one of the fastest growing and most-exciting parts of the business. 

You will sit in the marketing team, reporting to the marketing director but on a day to day basis you will be working very closely with the head of events and the wider events team. You will of course still have the support of the rest of the marketing team to brainstorm ideas, generate copy and for general brand awareness. 

As the business grows there will be lots of scope to grow and scale up events marketing within it. This is our first year running events across Europe and we’ve got big plans. We’ve said no to hybrid, our events are to be experienced in person, at key European startup hubs across Europe.

What will you be doing?

  • Visitor marketing; running dedicated campaigns to drive awareness, registrations and ticket sales. Including managing the relationship with any performance marketing agencies or creative freelancers we might commission to produce visual assets for us. 
  • Delegate makeup: Ensure we are balancing our targets of delegate audience diversity with total ticket sales.
  • Managing the event marketing calendar including when promotional periods will be, what channels we will be marketing on, what timeframes will we run any promotional discounts on.
  • Customer success; creating assets for our sponsors and partners to use when promoting their participation and supporting them to self-promote their involvement.
  • Partnership marketing – reaching out to a wider range of organisations (Accelerators, coworking companies, VC’s etc) and securing marketing partnerships that help drive ticket sales and event registrations.
  • Speaker support; providing assets and ensuring our speakers are promoting their participation in their own networks.
  • Overall brand themes. Working closely with the rest of the event, design and marketing teams on the look & feel of our in-person events. With particular focus on how to translate that into engaging and meaningful interactions.
  • On-site coverage; managing activities to create video, photography and editorial content to be used for future event marketing campaigns.
  • Post event success: Working with the head of commercial content to maximise the value of event coverage and create comprehensive post-event reports.

This role will not require you to source sponsorship, venues or vendors for our events. Nor will you be asked to work on the agenda or speaker lines ups. All of that is handled by the wider events and commercial teams, however you’re more than welcome to contribute ideas. As Sifted is still a young business, you will have significant say in all aspects of developing and executing our marketing and growth function, including defining the tools that we use, and the processes that we implement.

About you

Must haves

  • You have proven experience in marketing a range of events both in person and virtually
  • You’ll have an eye for what “good” looks like in terms of copy and design, with exceptional attention to detail. You’re used to working with creative teams, and know how to build out briefs for successful visual assets
  • You are super ambitious, a problem solver by nature and hungry to get things done fast
  • You’re a self-starter who is resilient in the face of change, with strong ability to context-shift, learn and drive meaningful results
  • You have experience of owning end-to-end projects including the delivery of multichannel campaigns
  • You are an exceptional communicator
  • You have a strong test & learn mindset, quickly learning what messaging, audience targeting and communication strategies work and iterating from there

What we offer:

  • £40 – £50k depending on experience
  • Equity equal to 10% of your starting salary
