Data Analyst

Sifted is looking to hire its first data analyst. You’ll deliver crucial business insights, build a data-informed company culture and guide strategy through research. This person will take a leading role on reporting and analysis to grow Sifted’s audience, traffic and internal data maturity.

Sifted is the media platform reporting on the world of technology and startups in Europe, backed by the Financial Times. Two years after launching, we’ve become known for our high-quality journalism and fresh viewpoints, and we’re a must-read for many founders, investors and people working in startups across the continent.

Launched in 2019, we have already grown to over 600k monthly unique visitors and beyond 100k newsletter subscribers, but there is much more to be done to both grow our readership and expand our scope beyond media to become the leading insights platform for the European technology industry. Our team is expanding rapidly (currently at c.45 people) and we are looking for more talented people to join.

The role provides daily research support to all functional Sifted teams, with responsibilities including responding to daily data requests and collaborating cross-functionally on business projects. From the rollout of a new piece of software through to analysing content performance for journalists, the data analyst will be fundamental to the long-term success of Sifted.

The job will be based in Shoreditch, London, with the expectation that 3 days a week will be spent in the office. The candidate will report to Sifted’s Head of Strategy, working closely with all team leads in line with various projects (from the Head of Product through to the Head of Marketing). In the longer term, the ambition is to grow Sifted’s data team.

You are

  • Someone who has 1-3 years of working in a data analyst role.
  • Understands the need for quality data and values the role it plays when it comes to informed decision-making.
  • Basic knowledge of Python or R.
  • Advanced experience of Excel / basic database tooling.
  • Enjoys simplifying complexity through effective visualisation and analysis.
  • Experienced in project ways of working and able to collaborate effectively across a diverse team with differing levels of data experience.
  • Great communication skills and a passion for teaching others data processes, so they can better serve themselves in the future.
  • Someone with a track record of presenting insights to leadership teams.
  • Knowledge of SQL and relational databases.

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of Asana / other project management tools.
  • Passionate about startups, tech journalism and good reporting.
  • Able to run workshops via Miro and other collaborative software.
  • Familiarity with statistical and significance tests / split testing.
  • Experience with any of Qlik Sense / Power BI / Tableau / Looker / Google Data Studio or other BI tools.
  • Knowledge of data analytics and digital engagement tooling, including Google Analytics, Piano, Sailthru is a plus.
