Contributing editor, Sifted Intelligence

Sifted is looking for a creative, collaborative and versatile journalist who is full of ideas, knows how to make smart commissions and has a knack for getting the best out of writers. 

As a core member of Sifted Intelligence, your role will be focused on delivering exceptional long form reports, managing/working with a team of external and internal journalists, as well as contributing parts to reports as needed.

About Sifted Intelligence 

Sifted is a new media platform, backed by the Financial Times, reporting on the world of technology and startups in Europe. Just two years after launching, we’ve become known for our high-quality journalism and fresh viewpoints, and a must-read for many founders, investors and people working in startups across the continent.

Our Sifted Intelligence team produces long form content, going behind the headlines to explore the trends shaping the European startup ecosystem.

At present Sifted Intelligence reports either have a sectoral (e.g. online food delivery, fintech), thematic (e.g. consumer tech trends, tech for good), or geographic (e.g. European startups and corona crisis, French tech ecosystem) focus.

Core responsibilities include:

  • Codevising a menu of relevant report concepts and translating them into synopses for prospective clients
  • Finding, recruiting, commissioning and developing a deep team of relevant freelance contributors
  • Managing, and editing the work of, other contributors ensuring timely delivery, and quality, clarity, accuracy and consistency of style 
  • Writing parts of reports as needed
  • Research including conducting background interviews, desk research and data analysis on report topics, as well as potential clients


  • Interest in tech and startups and an understanding of how technology is transforming society and business
  • Previous experience writing and editing reports or long form journalism
  • Experience managing contributors, both internally and externally
  • Comfort with uncertainty and the ability to change tack without experiencing discomfort (projects can arise / change focus at the last minute)
  • Flexibility, as Sifted is a young business, a willingness to get involved in all aspects of the business as needed is key!
